Arizona Rattlers Press Release
Coleman (6-3, 235, Tennessee-Chattanooga) was a seventh round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2012 after finishing his college career with a program-record 52 passing touchdowns and ranked second in school history with 6,871 passing yards at Tennessee-Chattanooga. He spent his rookie season in the NFL on Green Bay’s practice squad in 2012.
Before turning pro, Coleman began his collegiate career at the University of Tennessee where he saw action in three games as a redshirt freshman for the Volunteers in 2008. He transferred to Tennessee-Chattanooga and earned the starting quarterback job as a sophomore in 2009. He was selected Second Team All-Southern Conference by the league’s coaches and elected team captain by his teammates as a junior in 2010. As a senior in 2011, Coleman was named to the Walter Payton Award Watch List and finished the year with a 60.9 percent completion rate and an invitation to the East-West Shrine Game.
To make room on the roster for Coleman, the Rattlers placed veteran quarterback Jason Murrietta on recallable reassignment. Coleman will compete with recently acquired former Boise State signal-callerJoe Southwick for the backup job behind reigning AFL MVP Nick Davila.
