Arizona Rattlers Press Release

PHOENIX – The Arizona Rattlers have been assigned four more players to their 2016 roster, the team announced on Monday. Quarterback Shane Boyd and Allen Chapman will return to the club, while veteran offensive lineman Zack Williams will join the Rattlers for his first campaign in the desert. Arizona also acquired rookie offensive lineman Rokevious Watkins.

Boyd (6-2, 220, Kentucky) is a four-year veteran of the AFL and passed for 424 yards and nine touchdowns last season with the Rattlers. He has 3,273 passing yards and 56 touchdowns during his Arena Football career. Prior to coming to the AFL, the Fort Huachuca, Arizona native spent time in the National Football League (NFL) with the Arizona Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Boyd played college football for the Kentucky Wildcats from 2001 to 2005, where he started in 16 games, throwing for 2,484 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Chapman (5-11, 185, Kansas State) enters his third season in the AFL and second with the Rattlers. He began his Arena Football career with the Rattlers in 2014, appearing in 14 games and starting eight before joining thePortland Thunder last season. He has tallied 53.5 total tackles, five pass breakups, and four interceptions in his two-year AFL career. Before turning pro, Chapman spent two seasons at Kansas State, where he totaled 107 tackles, six interceptions, and 15 passes defended. Prior to Kansas State, Chapman played for the City College of San Francisco, where he earned 39 tackles, 10 interceptions, two fumble recoveries and one sack.

Watkins (6-5, 340, South Carolina) enters his first season in the AFL. He was selected in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2012 NFL draft by the St. Louis Rams and spent the 2012 NFL season with the Rams, playing in one game before joining the Kansas City Chiefs the following season. Before turning pro, Watkins attended the University of South Carolina, where he was awarded First Team All-SEC honors in 2011. He also attended Georgia Military College in 2007 and 2008.

Williams (6-3, 310, Washington State) enters his third season in the AFL and first with the Rattlers. He started 16 games at center as a rookie for the Orlando Predators in 2014 before joining the Las Vegas Outlaws in 2015. He was selected in the sixth round (203rd overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers and spent the entire 2011 season on injured reserve. In 2012, he was on the Panthers practice squad for the first half of the season before being activated for one game of action. Williams attended Washington State University where he was named All-Pac-10 Conference honorable mention selection, earning an invitation to the 2010 East-West Shrine Game.
