PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Soul added four more players to their 2016 roster on Thursday with the additions of veteran wide receiver Harvey Binford and defensive back LaRico Stevenson, along with rookie defensive back Peter Ashton and defensive lineman Skyler Skersick.
Ashton (6-2, 210, North Texas) enters his first season in the AFL. He began his collegiate career at Oregon State, playing in 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 2012 before transferring to North Texas for the remainder of his college eligibility.
Binford (6-0, 185, Lindenwood) enters his second season with the Soul after posting 24 catches for 412 yards and seven touchdowns in seven games as a rookie with the team last season. Prior to turning pro, Binford played collegiately at Lindenwood, where he scored the first touchdowin in program history, propelling the team to a 43-37 victory over Avila University during their inaugural game.
Skersick (6-3, 275, Charleston Southern) enters his first season in the AFL after collecting 27 tackles, 4.5 sacks, and a fumble recovery during his college career at Charleston Southern. He was previously assigned to the LA KISS before the 2015 AFL season but did not see any regular season game action with the team.
Stevenson (5-11, 205, West Georgia) enters his seventh season in the AFL and his fourth in a Soul uniform. He collected 82 tackles and five interceptions in 17 games for Philadelphia last season. For his career, he has logged 368 tackles, 44 pass breakups, and 20 interceptions. After beginning his AFL career with the Tulsa Talons in 2010, Stevenson spent time over the next two seasons with the New Orleans VooDoo and Pittsburgh Power before settling in with the Soul in 2012. He has also served as a kick return specialist during his time in the League, registering 106 returns for 1,648 yards and two scores as a return man.
