PORTLAND, OR – Steel wide receiver Jared Perry crossed the endzone with seconds to spare for the game winning touchdown to give the Steel their regular season finale win against the Los Angeles KISS.
With the game being the last before before the Steel’s first playoff game against Arizona Rattlers on August 6th in Phoenix, the Moda center was bursting with screams of fans as they took the field in a game with a fight to the very finish.
The game started off with the Kiss scoring the first touchdown of the night due to a Steel fumble. Both teams struggled to take control of the lead, gathering touchdown after touchdown. Six minutes from the end of the first half, Portland DB Sergio Gilliam intercepted a ball one handed, keeping the Kiss from another touchdown.
Steel wide receivers struggled to keep their hands on the ball, as they missed pass after pass from QB Shane Austin. Somehow, the Steel kept their footing and rounded out the first half tied up at 20-20.
As the seconds ticked by in the end of the fourth quarter, all fans stood and screamed, the score was 41-46. Portland inched their way closer and closer to the LA Kiss end zone, using up all the remaining seconds until the clock reached less than seven seconds remaining.
Portland definitely knows how to show fans how much they mean to them, for the team to put on the best and most intense game of the season.
As it was aforementioned, The Steel will hit the road to Arizona for their first playoff game against the Rattlers. But, with a win and the joy and love from their fans accompanying them, will it be enough for an upset win?
