Cleveland Gladiators Press Release
The Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League were assigned veteran WR Nick Truesdell and rookie DL Alstevis Squirewell on Tuesday, the team announced.
Truesdell, 26, enters his fourth season in the AFL and first with the Gladiators. Truesdell joins Cleveland for the 2017 season after catching eight touchdowns in five regular season games last year for the Portland Steel. Truesdell also spent some brief time in training camp with the Indianapolis Colts of the NFL.
“Nick is one of the more athletic “big” wide receivers I’ve seen,” said Gladiators Head Coach Ron Selesky. “He has great body control for a man his size and has very good speed. Adding a receiver of his type gives us a dynamic we’ve not had before so we’re very excited he’s with us. Nick also being from Ohio gives us another great player with local/state ties to our roster.”
Prior to 2016, the 6’6”, 250 lb. wide out spent his first two seasons in the AFL with the Spokane Shock, where he totaled 112 receptions for 1,327 yards and 30 touchdowns during that time.
Truesdell initially played his college ball at the University of Cincinnati before finishing up at Grand Rapids Community College.
A native of Cincinnati, OH, Truesdell prepped at Anderson High School.
Squirewell, 24, enters his rookie season with the Gladiators after spending time in camp with the Green Bay Packers in 2016.
The 6’0”, 275 lb. defensive lineman is a graduate of Newberry College where he made 50 tackles his senior season including 4.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss for the Wolves.
Squirewell is a native of Great Falls, SC.
