Wichita Regulators to go dormant for upcoming 2025 season
2 min readWICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Regulators will halt its launch into the 2025 Arena Football One season.
On December 27, 2024, team owner Chris Zachary shared a letter on social media announcing the franchise will go dormant for the upcoming season and instead make its debut in 2026.
Zachary did not share exact details behind the decision other than that it was made, “after careful consideration.”
“Over the years, the ICT Regulators had the privilege of working with outstanding individuals, clients and partners like you,” Zachary said in the letter. “As an organization, we are working towards a smooth transition for all parties involved.”
The Regulators were one of the eight teams that merged from the Arena Football League last season. The team now joins the Monterrey Kings and Stockton Crusaders who recently announced plans to delay their opening season to 2026.
Currently there are 11 active teams in the league.
“Arena Football One can confirm that the Wichita Regulators have asked for and been granted dormancy for the 2025 season and will focus on returning in 2026,” CEO Jerry Kurz said in a release. “All players have been released from their contracts and are considered free agents.”
The league office noted it is working to adjust the game schedule which is slated to begin the weekend of March 14. The Regulators were set to be on the road in its first game against the Southwest Kansas Storm.
“We understand that this may be a difficult change and we are committed to assisting in any way possible during this period of transition,” Zachary said. “We truly value the relationships we have built and look forward to working together again as we focus on the 2026 season.”
This remains a developing story and more details will be released as it becomes available.
