DODGE CITY, Kans. — The Southwest Kansas Storm captured its first win of the season while also making Arena Football One history.
The Storm defeated the Nashville Kats 40-26 in the opening game of the new Arena Football One league. The game was close in the second half, but storm defensive back Michael Lawson recorded two interceptions returned for a touchdown against Kats quarterback Jake Dunniway in the fourth quarter.
Storm quarterback Jalen Morton threw for 169 yards, rushed for 48 and recorded three total touchdowns.
“I’m incredibly honored to have been a part of the inaugural game of the AF1,” said Storm Head Coach Gary Thomas in a league press release. “I’m also incredibly excited for the world to see the kind of things we are building in this part of the country. We are located in a great city with great fans, a beautiful facility, and supportive and organized ownership. We have proven that you can build a sound business model and recruit top-level talent to a ‘small market.’”
