Corpus Christi Tritons release eight players including veterans as dispute over payment lingers

2 min read

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS — The Corpus Christi Tritons announced it released and suspended much of its roster as the organization’s future remains uncertain.

The team released eight players including veteran wide receiver Darius Prince and defensive back Dwayne Hollis according to the league’s transaction list on Tuesday. The moves follow the Triton’s recent 100-12 blowout loss to the Albany Firebirds where majority of the players sat out in a protest over allegedly not receiving their weekly pay.

“Last night for the first time in my 10-year career I had to sit out of a game for reasons outside my control! I have and will continue to give this game all I have while I can. I just want to be happy and play football.” Prince shared in a Facebook status on April 276

Next day on April 27, Prince posted a photo of his jersey outside of a room with the caption, “thank you Corpus for the memories.”

League officials informed Arena Insider this week that it does not have a comment on the situation at the time. The Tritons next game is scheduled for May 12 on the road against the Oregon Lightning.
