SHREVEPORT, La. — A recent arrest of a player with the Shreveport Rouxgaroux of the National Arena League is sparking outrage among the local community and colleagues over claims of police brutality.

On April 13, Shreveport Police Department arrested Rouxgaroux athlete Deron Maxwell. According to jail records, Maxwell was booked on multiple charges including disarming of a peace officer, resisting an officer with force or violence, and battery of a police officer.

In a widely shared and viewed video on social media, Maxwell appeared to be on the ground with multiple police officers detaining him. Maxwell can be heard yelling, “my knee” and one of the officers is shown punching Maxwell multiple times in the face.

Many people on social media expressed anger and frustration including the author of the post.

“You guys are dead wrong for using excessive force on someone you have detained! There is no reason to punch and hit on people when you have them detained. You were chokinghim and everything while having multiple officers already holding him down.” The author stated in the caption.

Arena Insider made contact with SPD and are waiting for more details regarding the arrest. We also reached out to team officials and are waiting to hear back.

This remains a developing story and more details will be released as it becomes available.
