Firebirds, Kats, Storm, Liberty secure final playoff spots in inaugural Arena Football One season

The road to the Arena Football One championship will go through Albany as the four-team playoffs for the league’s inaugural season are finalized.
The Salina Liberty won at home Sunday night against the Southwest Kansas Storm 53-52 on a game-winning field goal. The win secured the Liberty as the #4 seed and will travel in the playoff opener to face the #1 seed Albany Firebirds who are undefeated at 10-0. The game is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.
The #2 seed Nashville Kats will be at home against the #3 Southwest Kansas Storm. The game day and time has yet to be announced.
The highest remaining seed from both games will host the AF1 championship the weekend of June 27.
After opening the season at 0-4, the Liberty finished with a 6-5 record, winning their last four games. The win also eliminated the Billings Outlaws from playoff contention who were the defending 2024 Arena Bowl champions of the Arena Football League.
“Our teams are excited to see how the 2025 season wraps up,” Commissioner Jeff Fisher said in a May 13 press release about the upcoming playoff format. “All season long, we have been working hard to build something for 2025 and beyond. Arena Football has a bright future ahead, and good luck to all of our teams as they strive to hoist the championship trophy.”
In May, league officials indicated their will be activities, meetings and regular season awards during championship weekend. Playoff broadcasting details have yet to be announced but are expected in the coming days.
