Minnesota Myth cancels game against Albany amid departure of head coach, special teams coordinator
2 min readMINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Myth are facing multiple issues which ultimately impacted its scheduled week three matchup against the Albany Firebirds.
The Firebirds announced Saturday that Monday’s home game was canceled because the Myth were unable to travel to the game.
“Due to circumstances beyond our control, we regrettably have been forced to cancel Monday night’s game against Minnesota,” Jeff Levack, team president of the Firebirds, said in a release. “The Myth can not make the trip so we will refund everyone who purchased tickets to the game.”
Myth Head Coach Rickey Foggie resigned from the team on May 10 as first reported by Rebound Off the Net. Foggie acknowledged the support from fans and fellow coaches on X, but did not share details about his departure.
Special Teams Coordinator Javon Hering announced on X the same day that he also resigned from the team.
“Thank you Myth Nation for this unforgettable past few weeks! Y’all have been undeniably amazing and your support for our players was top notch! I am not going to be part of the Minnesota Myth organization moving forward! Please keep supporting the players and coaches.” Hering said in the post.
The Myth organization or the Arena Football League did not comment about the resignations or the game. The team is scheduled to be at home against the Wichita Regulators next Saturday.
Levack noted he is aware of the issues impacting the league but reassured fans the team is committed to competing this season.
“We have chosen to avoid the rumors and drama and remain focused on what we’ve promised our fans and community all along – winning football and a championship,” Levack said. “Games will continue and we will need our fans more than ever.”
The Firebirds, who are 2-0, were scheduled to play against the now defunct Philadelphia Soul in week four. The team’s replacement opponent is unknown at the time.
