ORLANDO — The #6 Nashville Kats stunned the #4 Orlando Predators with a 30-point win in the first round of the Arena Football League playoffs.

Kats’ veteran quarterback Randy Hippeard led the game with seven touchdowns on 15 completions and 121 yards in the team’s 62-32 win. Wide receiver Braxton Haley fielded three of the touchdowns along with 62 receiving yards.

After leading the first half 36-20, the Kats’ defense held the Predators to 12 points in the second half and forced three total turnovers in the game.

“This team has a lot of heart and spirit,” Nancy Eckert, Chief Operating Officer of the Nashville Kats, told Arena Insider after the game. “They know they represent something bigger than themselves every time they step on the field. This team brought arena football back to the city of Nashville and won’t quit until they bring home an ArenaBowl championship. I could not be more proud of the Kats.”

The Predators’ season ends after emerging into the postseason on a five-game win streak. Quarterback Drew Powell went 29-42, threw for 237 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the game.

The Kats will visit the Billings Outlaws in the semi-finals on July 13 at 10 p.m. ET.
