Rapid City Marshals to use replacement players ahead of game against Washington Wolfpack

2 min read

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Marshals announced that majority of its team will not play in Thursday’s road game against the Washington Wolfpack.

The team shared a statement on social media, stating only two of its players were willing to travel to the game. The Marshals’ ownership said it worked with the Wolfpack’s owners to recruit players.

“Rapid City ownership is working diligently with the other Arena Football League team owners, administration, and teams to rebuild the remaining schedule dates and fulfill Rapid City’s remaining home dates, reschedule canceled games, and accommodate the obligations and commitments made to our corporate partners and season ticket-holders.” the team shared in the post.

The announcement comes as players continue to voice their frustration over claims they are not getting paid. On May 11, the Marshals forfeited its home game against the Billings Outlaws because players refused to leave the locker room.

On May 17, Andrew Lind of KOTA reported about 10 players left the Marshals and only about 10 remained on the roster.

“The challenges we have faced beginning with the failed commitments of Lee Hutton and Arena Football Management, LLC have undoubtedly disrupted all of the plans and ambitions Rebecca and I had for this season,” Wes Johnson, co-owner of the Marshals said in the statement. “We have always been a ‘mom and pop’ business with limited resources, but we have also always led with a commitment to honesty, transparency and dedication to the community. We continue those commitments now and will have more updates in the coming days. We understand frustration from the lack of communication from us, but we have also had limited confirmed information to communicate. Therefore, we didn’t want to release statements over and over that were vague and uninformative.”

This is a developing story and this post will be updated with more details as it becomes available.
