Arena Football League finalizes postseason matchups, six teams to be on bye in final week
2 min readThe Arena Football League is turning its attention to the 2024 postseason.
According to a league press release, all six playoff teams will be on a bye this weekend. The Wichita Regulators will still travel to play the Washington Wolfpack in Saturday’s finale. Both teams are eliminated from playoff contention.
The #1 Billings Outlaws and the #2 Albany Firebirds secured the top two seeds and will have a first round bye.
The first round begins on July 5 with the #4 Orlando Predators hosting the #6 Nashville Kats at 7 p.m eastern time. On July 6, the #3 Salina Liberty will host the #5 Southwest Kansas Storm at 4 p.m. eastern time.
The winners will travel to the Outlaws or Firebirds with both games scheduled for July 13. Arena Bowl XXXIII will be held at a neutral site.
“I’m looking forward and honored to be a part of an extremely competitive and exciting playoff format,” Commissioner Jeff Fisher said in a statement. “Congratulations to the entire ownership group whose collaborative efforts made this possible. “I sincerely appreciate the patience of our players, staff and fan base as we are able to provide a glimpse of what the future holds.”
Earlier this week, the Orlando Predators announced the AFL expanded the playoffs to six teams based on a new partnership. The league said it will soon announce the television deal with plans to broadcast all five playoff games.
