Arena Football One reveals schedule for inaugural 2025 season

Arena Football One released its 2025 schedule featuring eight returning teams from the Arena Football League and four expansion teams.

The regular season is slated to kickoff the weekend of March 14 and end the weekend of June 13.

The league initially appeared to move forward with 14 teams, but on November 18 announced the Monterrey Kings and Stockton Crusaders would be pushed to the 2026 season.

The Arizona Bandits and Corpus Christi Tritons joined the league within the last few weeks.

“Starting any new franchise takes a certain level of time, and we feel it’s best to move our launch to the 2026 season,” Crusaders CEO Scott McKibben said in the release. “It will give us the time we need to set up all operations and to fully connect with our fan base.”

“[This] is in order to meet the high expectations and quality standards that we set for ourselves as an organization,” Kings President Fernando Von Rossum said. “We remain committed to AF1 and look forward to kicking off in 2026.”

During the schedule release show, Commissioner Jeff Fisher addressed the ongoing situation with the Nashville Kats, and confirmed the team will be around as it deals with legal issues surrounding the ownership group.

“There’s a lot of work that went in to getting us to this point and there’s still some work yet to be done,” Fisher said. “There will be a team in Nashville. It’s a great market and we love the way the division is set up. We just have a few things we need to wrap up before we release all of the information.”

The official 12 teams will be split in three divisions with an emphasis on less out of division matchups. Playoffs will feature the top three division winners, followed by the next three best records.
