AFL names new president, league to move forward with nine teams leaving out Oregon

MIDDLETON, Del. — The Arena Football League appointed a new president, while also announcing more changes to its current list of teams.
AFL appointed Jared Widman as president and chief operating officer. Officials said he has nearly 20 years of executive experience with national corporations.
“This challenge is welcomed with open arms and I intend to attack it head-on,” Wideman said. “There is a tremendous amount of work to be done and I am honored with the faith and trust league ownership and Commissioner [Jeff] Fisher have placed in me. A series of major league-wide announcements will present new sponsors, events, and partnerships in the coming days and weeks. We are excited about what we plan to bring to the American public this season and beyond.”
Along with the announcement, the league noted it will operate as a nine-team league – leaving out the Oregon Blackbears. The team did not make an official announcement, but recently shared it partnered with HUMBL as its ticket partner for the rest of the 2024 season.
