NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Arena Football One announced it will have a franchise in the northeastern part of Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, AF1 shared its second expansion team will be in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. The team name and personnel has yet to be revealed.

“I am humbled and honored to bring Arena Football back to Wilkes-Barre and northeastern Pennsylvania, Owner Matt Rowland said. “I want to thank AF1 and in particular Jared Widman, Jerry Kurz, and Jeff Fisher for believing in me and in this market. Even though I am leading the ownership group, the team belongs to the people of northeastern Pennsylvania.”

So far, Wilkes-Barre joins the Stockton Crusaders as the newest franchises to join the AF1 in its upcoming inaugural season. The league is planning to announce more franchises in the coming days.

“With experienced and innovative ownership leading Wilkes-Barre, we are excited to welcome Matt and his highly professional organization to AF1,” Commissioner Jeff Fisher said in a press release. “They are thoroughly prepared for the biggest stage, and we are excited and impressed by what they are bringing to the table. As we strengthen our league, we are excited to have teams like Wilkes-Barre in the fold.”
