UPDATE: NFL Network to not broadcast any Arena Football League games this season
The National Football League confirmed with Arena Insider it will not broadcast any Arena Football League games this season. The spokesperson declined to provide further information.
The decision comes after NFL Network pulled six scheduled Arena Football League games from its broadcast schedule over the last two weeks.
Before the season, the league announced its partnership with the network to broadcast about 30 games, with the first being the Orlando Predators against the Albany Firebirds on April 27.
Leading up to opening week, three games were removed from the schedule and later shifted to the Vyre network and on the league’s new streaming platform, Arena Football LIVE.
It’s unclear if the AFL will continue to use those sources for streaming matchups throughout the season.
After week one, AFL podcast host Rod Villagomez, at the time stated the league was having trouble getting people to talk together and other equipment issues. The televised coverage of the games on NFLN were expected to begin in week two.
AFL officials never released an official statement about the sudden change. Commissioner Lee Hutton III is expected to address the issues surrounding the league in a press conference Thursday night.
