Philadelphia Soul season shut down for remainder of 2024 season

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Soul’s historic return will be cut short for the remainder of the 2024 season.

General Manager Kelly Logan announced on The Take The 8 Count podcast that the Arena Football League placed the Soul on a “hold” for the rest of the season. Officials informed the team during a league-wide meeting on Wednesday, mainly citing finance issues according to Logan.

The Soul, who will now finish the season at 0-2, were scheduled to be on the road this week against the Nashville Kats.

“It really hurt my heart,” Logan said. “I did everything I could. We have a group of wonderful young men who are not ready to close shop.”

Logan shared the AFL making decisions as owner of the Soul made it difficult at times this season. The team losing its housing at the beginning of the season and the league not having enough money to pay players were some of the factors that went into the decision.

“It was not a fun situation for us,” Logan said. “I just couldn’t look in [the players] eyes anymore and just tell them unfortunately guys we don’t have the money. You could also see the frustration in the players and I knew they were not going to be focused on winning football games.”

The Soul had three home games scheduled at CURE Insurance Arena in Trenton, New Jersey beginning later this month. Logan said the arena is waiting on an official letter from the league before it can issue fans a letter and a refund.
